eBay Slams Ticket Resale Ban
Government proposals to prevent people from reselling tickets online to sporting and cultural events have been condemned by auction site eBay.
The government has rules out legislation to govern the ’secondary market’ of reselling tickets, but wants to introduce a voluntary code of conduct instead to ensure tickets go to fans rather than ticket touts.
But eBay said that a ban on online ticket resales would drive the trade into areas where it could not be regulated. “The trouble with bans or price caps is that they end up driving the trade to other parts of the internet or, even worse, onto street corners where there is no consumer protection if things go wrong,” said eBay.
