How do I reset my Blackberry phone to factory default settings?

How do I reset my Blackberry Curve mobile phone to factory default settings?
  • Sharebar

Few days back, one of my colleague left our organization for better career. She handed over her phone to me, and I had to reset the phone to factory default settings before I hand over it to the authority. This is the first time I was trying to reset a Blackberry phone. It was a new experience, I thought I should share with everyone.

To be honest with you, I’m not a fan of Blackberry. Although I own a Blackberry Curve 8900, still it’s too dull for me. I like Apple iPhone at lot, I own an Apple iPhone 3G and planning to replace my Blackberry with a Google Nexus. Anyway, since I’m not interested in BB, I have not explored it different features. So I had to explore it this time.

To reset Blackberry Curve (probably other BB models as well), you have to follow these steps:

  • Go to Options > Security Options > General Settings.
  • Then click the Menu Key, it will show a list of options.
  • Select Wipe Handheld and follow the instructions.

That’s it. It should reset your BB phone to factory default settings. Hope this small post will help you in emergency situation.

Have a nice Weekend, Take care, bye.

I have a similar situation where I have aquired an old BB 8120 which was an old work’s phone. As it was part of the enterprise network, I need to reset the phone as there is no function to SMS on this as it has been disabled. I have tried to follow the instructions above but when I press the menu button, there is no option apart from ‘Close’.

Any ideas please?

Thanks
Louise

sorry to interupt on this, i just want to tell you, that wiping the bb can take awhile, do NOT take battery out during wiping process as this will break you phone, chances are you wont be able to use it after you do this… just abit of helpful info there.

Hi Donna,

Sorry babe, I’m not a pro in BB. I was just a BB user with some extra knowledge ;)

I will advise you to check BB forums for your problem. here is a list of BB forums:

No, you won’t lose any credit as credit is calculated by your network, not by your handset.

Thanks for your comment.

Hi Marivic,

I’m not a BB professional. I was just a BB user (currently iPhone & Android). I can’t help you in this situation.

Better, you should join BB users’ forums and ask help from their members and moderators.

No, resetting phone won’t do anything to your sim card content.

hello’ i got a black berry of my friend and i have jsut found your information i am worried that i am going to lost the music is this going to happen?..and with the black berry messanger what will happen with that? thank you

I believe all your music is stored in your SD card, and restoring the phone won’t change anything on the SD card.

BTW, you will lose will BB messenger contacts, so keep a record. Better, save a backup first and then try to restore from backup.

Wish you all the best.

Thank you so much! I hope this helps with the problems this device is giving me. And just to let know, I am not in favor of BB either. They are just not functional at all!!!

Cheers!
