Do you use Ad Blockers.... Here are 5 reasons why you should not use them

Over the years, online advertisements has been the primary source of income for many publishers. From Fortune 500 companies to single mom, from newspapers to bloggers – everyone have been using display advertisement. Without the financial benefits, blogging communities would not have progressed so far as today.

However, it becoming a trend to block all kinds of ads (display ads) from displaying on websites. Adblock Plus is the most popular Mozilla Firefox add-ons, downloaded 839,267 times weekly. Again same Adblock is the most popular add-ons for Google Chrome as well. So you can easily imagine how many people are using this browser add-ons to block the advertisements from displaying.

Now, I agree with most of the people that some advertisements are really annoying, some take long to display, but not all of them. Using these tools, all the advertisers are getting the same treatments. They are losing money, they are not getting enough business and publishers are not getting enough financial support for living.

Today, I read a nice article on the same topic at Smashing Magazine – Why Web Designers Should Not Use Ad Blockers. I liked the blog post, particularly I totally agree with the final paragraph:

If you run a web design blog, don’t promote the use of these browser plugins, and don’t complain about the amount of ads that appear on your favorite blogs — because you probably wouldn’t even know about those blogs if they didn’t have ads on them. Instead, have a balanced view of ads on design blogs, and help support the community by using the products and services that our advertisers are selling (or in some cases, generously giving away).

As it says, personally I don’t use any kind of ad blocking add-ons and also I don’t promote them. Read the article and let me know what’s your own view on the topic.

Take care, bye.

When using AdBlockers, you actually block some of the features included in the Google AdSense-CP which is very annoying. And takes time.

Initially there is a huge investment of time, costs for hosting if that applies promotion and the build-up to a steady audience of traffic to your blog or site. Advertisers are not interested in a site that does not traffic. Building-up traffic and trust and being seen as an expert in your field is a huge investment. Advertisers appreciate this and are willing to pay to tap into to this traffic.

It takes an enormous amount of time to research, academically underpin proof read, publish and finally promote a content rich blog post / article.

I do not appreciate the view by some who say that if you rely on ad income them you must go if ads are blocked.

Since the dawn of time, we have relied on advertising.

If you think the big giants like, Google, Facebook, Twitter or even Youtube are free, then think again, they all rely on advertising revenue to get by.

P.S Keep-up the good work Hasan by blogging. :)

Hasan bro, if you log in to world’s biggest Free ebook site, gigapedia with that plugin then you will get an automated request on not to use that plugin and allow web owner to get revenue. Can’t we use such option? If you know how to do that then plz let us know

Hello Adnan,
I have no idea about such plugin that reminds you to disable your ad blocker. Personally I don’t use Ad Blocker, so I have never been to such situation.

Let me know if you find anything.

Cheers!

Oh..It was a very silly mistake..Don’t know why I used the word “Plguin” there. What I want to meant is that if you log in to gigapedia in firefox by enabling that Adblock Plus Mozilla Firefox add-ons/Chorome Extention then you will receive this automated notice:

“Dear ADBLOCK user.

Please consider disabling adblock on this site (in order to display the only banner advert) or making a donation. In this way you can help us pay for expensive servers to maintain this free resource.

Cheers
Smiley”

I guess this is the best way to request my users not to use that add-ons/extension. I am very happy to inform you that there are some awesome wordpress plugins which can show such notification or can be used as anti add blocker. Here are some of those:

1: WordPress AdBlock Blocker
2: Anti-AdBlock

blocking ads using add-ons seems like that they want to get help from me but dont want to help improving my site. all of us should not use these add-ons and help all the webmaster to go ahead with their talent.

I don’t support ad-blocker system. I’m totally against it. We get lots of great quality contents on the Internet just at no cost. How come we can’t pay them back just by enabling the ads that generate them money?

Yes, you are right. Without paying back for the hard work publishing are putting to generate quality content, we can’t expect them to generate for free for long.

Thanks for your comment.
